you'll be glad you did

here are a few of my favorites...

Give up holding grudges. – Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness.

Give up setting small goals for yourself. – Many people set small goals because they’re afraid to fail. Ironically, setting these small goals is what makes them fail.

Give up letting your thoughts and feelings bottle up inside. – People are not mind readers. They will never know how you feel unless you tell them.

Give up trying to control everything. – Life is an unpredictable phenomenon. No matter how good or bad things seem right now, we can never be 100% certain what will happen next. So do you best with what’s in front of you and leave the rest to the powers above you.

Give up focusing on what you don’t want to happen. – Focus on what you do want to happen. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story. If you awake every morning with the thought that something wonderful will happen in your life today, and you pay close attention, you’ll often find that you’re right.

I know this is a [lame] pop song
but of now it defines me
Lets just say it's been another one of those weeks
you know, the kind where you work 70 hours
This weekend I really plan on doing nothing-
It's going to be wonderful

His

Take a look at R's latest and greatest graphic design project.
He had to design a mailer, which means something you get in the mail.
The product, the box, the everything has to look great and have the same look/theme.
R had to design something for an ice cream party.
He made + designed a bag for home made ice cream mix.
He also made a flyer with all the info + directions to the ice cream party.
Then he stuck all the goods into an ice cream container, set it on some ice and
sealed it in a cooler that was wrapped in the beautiful logo.
Next he covered the mailing box with a transfer of his logo and sealed it up.
He sent it to his professor who is going to unwrap this beautiful surprise
to the illusion of a cold ice cream container only to find a beautiful invite to
his very own ice cream party and his own ice cream mix.
Wouldn't you just LOVE pulling this out of your mailbox?
I know I would.
So folks for all of your graphic needs you know who to contact!

Happy Brithday

Ryley's birthday turned out great.
During the day it didn't rain.
We got to hike R Mountain
and enjoy taking pictures + eating lunch + flying kites
During the evening all our close friends came and ate sushi with us
R ate a roll of only fish eggs. Slightly disturbing.
[I did try them and they were actually not bad]
We then headed home to eat some cake and relax.
R was surprised with his new watch.
I'm so lucky to be married to my best friend.

just take a look

at my man.
he's beautiful.
but in a manly way

Who knew that you could get
looks + brains + laughs
in one person.

Story purely for amusement...

I always here stories about R as a little boy. So cute. So smart. So out of control. One of my favorite stories is when R was around 3 or 4 he was being baby sat. Obviously he did something naughty because the babysitter sent him to his room. Ryley, being the devious person he is wanted to get back at her. He opened his window so it looked like he ran away, but he didn't leave. He then proceeded to take all the toys out of his toy box. He lined the bottom with his favorite blankey. And then he laid inside, putting all the toys back on top of him, and closed the lid. The babysitter came in and couldn't find R anywhere. She called his parents who came home and they all searched. After 3 hours his mom finally found R sound asleep in his toy box. What 4 your old come up with a plan so brilliant and executes? It makes me so excited + scared to have kids and see what kind of trouble they get into.

daily rituals

What do you do all day R?

Must do's
R must check theawesomer.com,new movie trailers, whiskeymilitia.com, email, and youtube at least once a day.

R must play his ps3 for [at least] 30 minutes. This must be done while sitting 2 feel from tv

R prefers, but doesn't always get, a big cup of juice [grape] with every meal & snacks

He must have 2 Q-tips after a shower to clean out his ears until they shine

He has to sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door [to be the first one to an intruder]

He always has a turkey tail in his hair when he wakes up, and 6 out of 7 days has one the entire day.
He prefers watching AFV over Kathy Lee & Hoda in the mornings. Obviously.

He definitely needs a hug + kiss from his lil wife every morning + night

And he even admits now that he needs me in the bed to fall asleep.

R for Relaxed

(R snoozen on our honeymoon road trip it Newport)

One thing Ryley has got going for him is relaxation.
Relaxation as in sleep. Well sure.
Ryley never stresses [besides his graphic design class, but that's impossible not to]
He is always, I mean always, up for a party.
He doesn't worry about what he has to get done. He'll do it later.
R loves chillen on our couch and watching movies. He could watch a movie a day at least
When his head hits the pillow at night he's dead to the world in 30 seconds flat.
[this makes bedtime convo frustrating or entertaining or both]
His calmness rubbs off on me.
When I'm worried about finishing something or being somewhere on time or R finishing his homework
R is always calm and he helps me wind down.
He gives me a hug.
He rubs my feet.
He forces me to lay by him and just be.
He's wonderful

Seven Days of R: day 7

7 days until R's birthday

R's birthday is coming up.
Instead of celebrating him one day I choose to do 7.
[like Hanukkah or something]

Today I love Ryley because he still, after 3 years, gets me laughing so hard my body goes into convulsions and I can't get up, can barely breath, and almost pee my pants. I said almost.
Last night we somehow decided it would be a good idea to play tag. With just us 2. In our shoebox apartment. Clothes optional. [teasing] [sort of] R took off and hid in a really good spot. Couldn't find him. When I finally did, he screamed which sent me jumping/flailing about. I did tag him at least. We proceeded to run around the house for a good 10 minutes chasing diving and lunging for the "touch-back" I know we sound weird, maybe even messed up. But I'll tell you I haven't laughed that hard in months.

Ryley has a gift.
He can make anyone smile.
Especially me.
And I'll be smiling forever.
I love you
love, me

Grateful Lady

Today I am grateful for many small things...

1. I woke up and the sun was actually shining!!! [this is huge people]
2. I don't have to work until tonight which means I get the entire day to ride my bike, read in the park, and really do whatever I please. [which may or may not include working out, bye bye nice summer body]
3. R and I finished our applications for passports. We're going to be world travelers.
4. Really all I can think about is it's in the 60s today. Geez I'm easy to please. All R needs to do is take me somewhere warm + feed me a little sugar and I'll smile for days. I am so excited to get outside!
5. Ok so this is great news for all you BYU Idaho peps. The swimming pool on campus will let you wear your own one piece now! Best news ever! Who wants to share a swimsuit with random people on campus? Not me. Thus I've been scouting out suits online. Most are way over budget, which is so weird since there is not much material there right? But I've found 2 that I like/love. I can't try them on and have to order soon. I need some she help. R put in his advice, but doesn't quite know how girls + bathing suits work. What one do you like. Simple and black or Fun with stripes. [ha ha more stripes]

vote now and make my life easier

5.10.2011

his/hers stripes & brights

It's time for a his/her post again
Sometimes it's a bit hard to think of interesting his/her ideas.
But ya know what, oh well, it's us and I like us so maybe you will too

His
R loves bright things. He might not tell you this, but I know it. I do. Every time we go shopping he picks out the neon colored shirts or board short. He'll pick out bright dresses for me and I'll smile and say what about this one and hold up a light tan dress with absolutely no color.
I know why he does this. Because he's an 80s baby. He just can't get away from it.

It makes me laugh though because I'm exactly opposite. I almost always go for the earthy tones. I don't own a pink shirt, bright or dull, I have some reds and navy blues and a pop here and there, but most of my clothing is a very muted color. I wonder if R hates my wardrobe? hmmm

R's clothes match his personality. Also bright and optimistic. Love that

*extra tid-bit*
I've been thinking about different funny things we say and here's my new favorite from R.
[c] "oh Ryley look how cute that skirt, shorts, ect are. I really really want them. Why are they so short! Augh!"

[r] "It's ok Chelse, let's just buy 2 and sew them together."

This is his explanation for everything. It always makes me smile and sometimes I think.... hmmm maybe I will.

Hers
It's official. I am obsessed with stripes.
My closest has 15 stripes and 1 floral
My fabric drawer has 90% stripes + 10% solids
Every time I search for house decor it all comes out with stripes.
I can't get aways with it.
I buy R striped shirts always, I paint with stripes, I love stripes.

*my extra tid-bits*
Well I'm not sure if this is R's favorite thing that I say, but I think it's pretty funny because whenever I say it it makes him laugh, but also frustrates him a bit.

[senario] R is always tackling me. He pins me down or grabs my arms or around my guts and tickles me or just won't let me move [drives me crazy!] Don't worry, we are both [usually] laughing. R will always say "Chelse, I've got ya now. You're my prisoner." and then I'll say, " No Ry, I've got yooouuu. Yooouuuuu can't let go of me so you're my prisoner. He always laughs, but it makes him mad because he can't let go so he really is mine." See people it's all in the way you look at things. Have the right perspective and you're golden.

Birthday DIY

I've got R's birthday on my mind lately. I've got 2 weeks to plan something wonderful. [which is hard because last May it snowed on his birthday and it is currently 38 degrees here.] Any ideas? I would LOVE to have them! Here is a happy little card that would be super easy to make.

The first is my favorite. My question is will a man appreciate a card like this?

mostly for Rachel

I found another delicious artist while on the computer last night.
These beauties are designed by Inslee, an artist living in D.C.
These pictures are of the art she sells in her shop. [calendars, note cards, prints, ect]
She also has some very different figures in in gallery.
I said this was mainly for Rachel Hope because she is living in NY and could go to her booth,
but you all should check her out.

What color is your Soul today?

The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts.
-Marcus Aurelius

I found this info online today and it made me think and ponder and smile and question how I live my life. I want my thoughts to be bright and colorful and vibrant. Do you?
Here are a few thoughts from Marcus Aurelius
go here to read more and smile

“Life is opinion.”

“Do not act as if you were going to live ten thousand years. Death hangs over you. While you live, while it is in your power, be good.”

“Remember that very little is needed to make a happy life.”

“Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.”

So ask yourself: what color are your thoughts today? Are they bright and bold and full of hope? Are they reds and greens and cobalt blues and golds? Or instead, are they a flat muddy brown? The color of your thoughts (your mind) will determine the color of your soul (your feelings) and your soul will determine how you live. So live bright. Create. Avoid muddy brown at all costs. Watch the stars and run with them. That’s what I plan to do.

crazy glenda

Glenda is one sweet lady.
This weekend I had the chance to spend time with my mother and 2 sweet sisters.
We laughed, we talked, and I reflected.

My mother and I are very different.
When I was young I was probably closer with my dad. We were a lot the same.
Then my father passed. Needless to say it was very very sad and hard.
But because of the experience my mother and I became close. And this I will always be grateful for. We don't always see eye to eye. [actually probably less than half the time] We have different hobbies. But my mother has taught me how to be my best self. She has taught me how to work hard, how to not complain and how to push through and preserver through all that bad stuff in life. She has taught me how to love and to be unselfish [still working on]
Even though we are so different we are so the same.
I am grateful for you every day

grateful lady

The week is almost over with me not doing my grateful post + his/her. Woops
Today I am very grateful for friends
Amy, Mckenzie, & Jules to be specific

Some times I work and work and work and work and work and life seems lame. Don't get me wrong, R always makes life surprising and happy, but sometimes I just need a little more estrogen around. I haven't had a girls night in so long that I forget how much I need them and how great they are. These girls provided me with an evening full of relaxation and laughing my guts out. [We did miss Rachael Adair and her dirty comments/all comments]

I know I'm a broken record when I say sometime I really struggle with living in Rexburg. It's cold and little and I can't find a job blah blah blah. My friends are the reason I'm happy here and why I don't mind sticking around for a while.

I will have to say Jules is the cutest pregnant girl I have ever seen

Of course we ate cupcakes and did our nails while we were chatten' away. Please take note of my nails- my first ever.

Since I'm grateful for friends today I feel like I need to say how blessed I've been my entire life with having amazing friends by my side. In high school, the place most teenagers dread/despise was a party for me. This because of friends. The very first day I moved to college I met Rachel Hope, a girl who will be my life time friend and sister. And so it continued. No matter where I moved, [Rexburg, Idaho Falls, Provo, Hawaii] I always had someone to party and laugh with.

This list also includes my sisters and mother who are the best friends of all. No one is more like you than family. Maybe I'm more like them since I'm the youngest. I'm so lucky to live so close to my mom. To be able to visit her and talk her ear off and to never feel annoying or overbearing. And now I have 2 more sisters [well sister in laws] and mother in law which just extends the love. They are all so great and hopefully they feel the same because we're stuck with each other for a while. I am literally surrounded by amazing people and the more I write the more grateful I feel. Wow this really does work...

Cinco de Mayo

I know it's almost over but....
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Such a great excuse to celebrate.
I ditched my class. It was way too nice to be inside [by that I mean 65 degrees ha]
I peddled my bike. R pushed his board
And we partied at the taco bus

While there we saw the cutest little hispanic boy with a sweet silver chain on. I couldn't resist sneakily taking his photo with my phone. I'm sure he knew what I was doing. The older men I took a picture definitely knew. I did it anyways. R was embarrassed.

*disclaimer* pictures taken with lame phone. Don't judge

Oh so delicious

Stay tuned for updates on tomorrows Seis de Mayo which we will be celebrating with the family. Pinata and all.
Ohhh can't wait

weekend

This weekend R and I went on a great family outing in the morning and had ourselves a great date at night. Bright and early Saturday R and I headed over to the parents, hopped in their car, and headed to Shelly to an antique store. [one of the Shaum's favorite past-times]

What happened with the fam
At the antique store I bought a little pink glass cup made during the Depression. Yea
We found an awesome green wall and had to stop for some photos.
We then drove back to Idaho Falls & stopped at the farmers market
bought yummy fudge.
[I could really go for some more right now]
At the market we saw a timber wolf [pet] playing with a mini pincher that weighed 3 lbs. The little dog stood up on its hind legs and his entire body was as tall as the wolfs head when he was laying down!
Ate at Snake Bite, an amazing loco cafe. Easton ate his hamburger in record time.
Rode home watching Fantacy Factory on Garet's ipod

what happened on our date night
wanted to go hiking. Too cold. Went to Fast5 instead.
I didn't have high hopes, but we both loved the movie. Fake but entertaining.
Came home and made art
We each had our own canvas that connect together by a beautiful stallion
I first painted mine red and blue. It looked like the English flag. ahhh
Had to start over. Sad
The ending outcome made us happy. Now we have something to hang on our walls.

Later on we had a bonfire with some friends.
April 30th and I still had thermals, flannel. thick hoodie, hat, + gloves.
talked, laughed, burned stuff, ate smores
Great night

The next day after church R & I changed and R said we were going for a drive.
We drove and drove and drove and finally got to Mesa Falls.
Too much snow. The road to the falls was closed.
Sad times.

We then drove back a few miles and had a picnic by the river. Instead of sitting on the blanket I had it wrapped around me. Still cold.
We were sitting by this gnarly/narley tree. You all know how I love trees.
Thus we took a picture.
R has a remote for the camera, but since the tree was so big he had to walk up half way to the camera to get the camera timer to start. He would then sprint back to me for the photo. He didn't make it. I have some pretty funny photos of R running, turning, and lunging towards me. I didn't take the time to make progression photos but just try to imagine how awesome they all are.

We had 2 amazing days of relaxation and good times
Hope you all had great weekends as well
